01/10/12: KAMII Social Justice Chair Robert Nevel paid another visit to WCPT's Mike Nowak Show on 820 AM to promote our 3rd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Social Justice Weekend. This time, Robert and Mike are joined by the University of Chicago Medical Center's Doriane C. Miller, whose presentation is the first installment of the Social Justice Weekend. 12/19/11: Art Smith, famous Hyde Park-Kenwood resident, was recently asked by Time Out Chicago to list his favorite neighborhood spots. Not surprisingly, a number of area restaurants and markets made the cut, but so did a certain historic synagogue. Said Smith:
Gaze at President Obama’s residence, but the real beauty is across the street at KAM Isaiah Israel temple. This Byzantine structure is one of the great synagogues of Chicago.
12/14/11: Social Justice Committee Chair Robert Nevel was invited to speak at a workshop at the URJ Biennial addressing the issues within the Jewish food justice movement. Link
11/14/11: The City of Chicago's Department of Environment sent our Social Justice Committee the following letter:
Congratulations! Your garden has been awarded 1st Place in the Vegetable Garden - City Wide category of the 55th Annual Mayor's Landscape Awards program. The effort you have given through tending your landscape represents a significant commitment to your neighborhood and the whole city. Gardens and other green spaces help improve air quality, utilize rainwater and make Chicago a beautiful place to live.
Congratulations again on this great achievement! We thank you for being part of Chicago's effort to be the greenest city in the nation.
