Tzedakah & Community Grants

Tzedakah, or “righteous action,” has been a long tradition at KAMII. As a compassionate community which values social responsibilty and action, we understand that sometimes action takes the form of words and deeds, and sometimes it takes the from of financial donations. The Synagogue encourages those donations and coordinates the distribution of those funds via congregant-initiated grant applications.

Tzedakah donations can be made in a number of ways:

  1. Donations can be placed in the tzedakah box outside the chapel
  2. Small take-home tzedakah boxes can be obtained from the Temple office and then retuned full
  3. Any donation to the Temple can be earmarked for tzedakah

Donations are distributed through a grant. The guidelines for the grant are as follows.

  1. The application should come from a synagogue member, a committee, or member of the professional staff
  2. Applications should address problems of basic human needs through either social service (giving relief to the poor or help to victims of violence or injustice) or social action (by educating the public, influencing public policy or advocating social change)
  3. The beneficiary of the grant should not be another grant-making organization
  4. Awards are limited to $500
